Soldiers from seven different commands across the Army Central Command (ARCENT) start the first day of the 2012 Army Best Warrior Competition held the last week in April at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. This competition is sponsored by the 1st Theater Sustainment Command (TSC), based in Ft. Bragg, NC, and the 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), from Marysville Wash. Over three days, nine competitors from the non-commissioned officer (NCO) and junior enlisted ranks test their soldier skills in this hot, dusty environment. 00;00;05;00 Soldiers command their own squad through a military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) scenario in a simulated hostage scenario. This event tests the competitor’s ability to make quick decisions and tactics as their team clears a building known to have hostile forces inside. 00;00;59;00 Simulated casualties are medically evacuated (MEDEVAC) using a 9-line request for helicopter extraction (audio from aviation and ground station radios). 00;02;05;14 Competitors were challenged at the end day three with a mass-casualty exercise using state-of-the-art simulated casualties that breathe, bleed, and even have a pulse. 00;02;20;14 The last event was a mock chemical, biologic, radiological and nuclear scenario in which the competitor is judged by their reaction to the situation.
