Maj. Gen. Keith L. Thurgood, Deputy Commanding General (Support) and Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg, NC, answers questions about Continuum of Service and how it applies to and affects Army Reserve Soldiers, their families and their employers. He explains the benefits to the American taxpayer and the nation. The Continuum of Service initiative seeks to retain a pool of experienced, talented Soldiers through continued service in the reserve components, thereby allowing the Army to reverse and expand its end strength as required. The time is right to shape the force to meet the challenges of the future; the needs of the Army and our nation; and the needs of our Soldiers, their Families and their employers. The goal for the Army Reserve is to inspire Soldiers to a lifetime of military service, which includes seamless transitions between reserve categories and civilian service, providing variable and flexible service options and levels of participation consistent with DoD manpower requirements.
