The ceremony was specifically held on an important day in Croatian history. Aug. 5 is known as "Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day" and the "Day of Croatian Defenders," and is celebrated nationwide to remember the day the City of Knin was liberated in 1995 during Operation Storm.

The Croatian OMLT members work daily to coach, teach, and mentor the ANA 209th Corps soldiers in operational planning and mission execution in order to increase the overall capabilities of the Afghan National Security Forces. The OMLTs contribute to the ISAF mission of assisting the government of Afghanistan in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment.
