1st Lt. Joseph M. Russell, a Richmond Heights, Ohio, native and the communications advisor for the Afghan National Army s 215th Corps, speaks about the transition of ANA communications to encrypted radios. Russell, 25, began the initiative to switch the 215th Corps radio communications to an encrypted network. The 2008 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his team worked through the ANA s logistical system to begin the changeover. Through his planning and advice, the 215th Corps established a workshop to build encrypted radios, provided training to add encryption, and created a team of Afghan soldiers who travel throughout the battle space encrypting all Afghan radio communications. He also speaks about the increased capabilities and independence this gives the ANA. Also available in high definition
