Eight Soldiers with the 95th and 575th Sapper Companies, 14th Engineer Battalion, receive Purple Heart medals on Christmas Day, 2011 at Camp Leatherneck, Helmand province, Afghanistan. Marine Maj. Gen. John Toolan, commanding general of Regional Command Southwest, presented the medals. The 95th Sapper Co. is based out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The 575th Sapper Co. and the 14th Engineer Battalion are based out of Joint Base Lewis-McCord, Wash. The soldiers presented are responsible for clearing supply routes of improvised explosive devices.
