  • B-Roll Footage of historic January 3, 2012 Taking On Authority (TOA) ceremony between the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 2nd Infantry Regiment at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Andar in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.

The event is historic because it’s the first time in 41 years the sister battalions of the 2nd Infantry Regiment have served in the same battle space together. The last time this happened was 1970, when both battalions deployed to South Vietnam.

Headed by LTC Alan Streeter, the 2nd battalion, which serves under 1st Infantry Division, conferred authority of its battle space (the Andar and Deh Yak Districts in Ghazni) to the 1st Battalion, headed by LTC Earl Higgins, Jr. The 1st Battalion hails from Grafenwoehr, Germany and falls under the 172nd Infantry Brigade.

The last of the 2nd battalion soldiers left FOB Andar following the TOA ceremony, to return to FT. Knox Kentucky after a yearlong deployment.
