Airlift Tanker Association awards the 2011 Major General Stanley F. H. Newman Outstanding Unit Award to the 185th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) from Sioux City, Iowa. The award is presented annually to one Air National Guard unit each year that demonstrates the most significant impact on the success of the United States Military missions at home and abroad. Over the last year, the men and women of the 185th ARW have deployed all over the world including missions over Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya many of which were short notice deployments. In addition to supporting global missions, the 185th ARW played a key role in the flood relief efforts earlier this summer, serving as the Air Operations Center for the flood relief and providing members to monitor levee conditions in the Sioux City area. The Airlift/Tanker Association is a nationally recognized professional organization dedicated to ensuring that American military forces continue to have the air mobility capability required to implement U.S. national security strategy.
