Turkish Warship Gemlik Disrupts Suspected Pirate Attack Group A pirate attack was disrupted on Feb. 20, by the Turkish warship TCS Gemlik assigned to Combined Task Force 151. The MV Apl Finland was transiting in the Gulf of Aden when a suspicious vessel approached. The Master of MV Apl Finland raised the alert by bridge-to-bridge communication to alert other ships of the suspicious vessel. (02/23/10)
Singapore Led Flagship Apprehends Pirates Coalition warships from Combined Task Force 151 have apprehended suspected pirates in the Gulf of Aden. The Tanzanian-flagged MV Barakaale 1 came under attack whilst transiting through the region and the timely response by the Master in alerting vessels in the region by bridge-to-bridge radio communication enabled ships from CTF 151 to come to its aid. Nuristan PRT's Warrior's of the Year Petty Officer 1st Class Kathleen Leach, an operations specialist and native of Smithfield, R.I., and Petty Officer 3rd Class Dustin Brzezniak, aviation boatswains mate (handling) and native of Matawan, N.J., were awarded Nuristan Provincial Reconstruction Team Non-commissioned Officer Warrior of the Year and Junior Warrior of the Year at an informal ceremony held Feb. 10.
