Troop movements on par with Iraq pullout
 The U.S. military is moving mass amounts of equipment out of Iraq at par with the presidential plan to withdraw the majority of U.S. troops out of Iraq by Aug. 31.

Third Army is honored to announce the promotion of Phillip E. McGhee to the rank of major general, effective, Jan. 19. He is the director of Resource Management for Third Army, and has held that position since Aug. 2008.

Third Army moves Mine Resistant vehicles to Afghanistan
Third Army has shipped over 1,000 vehicles to Afghanistan, since the President's announcement to increase forces there. Approximately 350 vehicles are in transit with 650 on the ground at Kandahar and Bagram, ready for issue to troops deploying to Afghanistan as part of the build-up.

Third Army in Afghanistan
Members of the U.S. Army Central Coordination and Support Element-Afghanistan arrived in Kabul in early November. With boots on the ground, the liaison team is focused on getting critical resources to U.S. Army Forces in Afghanistan to support their current and future operations.

Third Army leads the Responsible Drawdown Enterprise
Since May 2009, Third Army distributed more than 14,000 pieces of equipment, ranging from tanks to antennas, out of Iraq directly to Afghanistan as part of its role in the Responsible Drawdown.
