Marines are displaying Marine Corps attack helicopters aboard the USS Wasp amphibious assault ship during Fleet Week New York 2012, May 23-30.

Fleet Week New York provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as see, first-hand, the latest capabilities of today's maritime services. More than 6,000 service men and women from the U.S. and coalition nations will arrive aboard the ships.

Cpl. William Rivera discusses coming home for Fleet Week New York 2012
Cpl. William Rivera arrived at the Downtown Manhattan Heliport ahead of Fleet Week New York, May 22. Rivera is an operations clerk and Marine Corps marital arts instructor from Brooklyn. He is a member of the Special Marine Air Ground Task Force New York. Approximately 3,000 sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will descend upon the city to celebrate the 25th Fleet Week New York, which will take place May 23 - 30. Fleet Week has been New York City's celebration of the sea services since 1984. It is an unparalleled opportunity for citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as see, firsthand, the latest capabilities of today's maritime services.

As an 0311 infantryman, he mainly works on the ground within a squad of 12 other Marines conducting combat operations ranging from ambushes to vehicle checkpoints, as well as non-combat operations such as census patrols and key leader engagements.

Marines will load Toys for Tots donations into tactical vehicles in Times Square from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19 to Saturday, Dec. 24, during their final collection of toys before Christmas. Sixth Communication Battalion, a Marine Forces Reserve unit based in Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, runs the Toys for Toys drive for New York City. Last year they collected approximately 280,000 toys, the majority of them being collected during this last-week scramble before Christmas. For further questions, should call 718.338.9695.
