Odierno visits Turkey, discusses military cooperation
The senior U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. Ray Odierno, met today with Turkish Gen. Hasan Igsiz, the deputy chief of the Turkish General Staff, to discuss U.S. – Turkey military cooperation. The meeting centered on U.S. forces’ on-going assistance to Turkey in its effort to defeat the Kurdish rebel group known as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK.

Coalition forces continued to target al-Qaida in Iraq’s bomb network Tuesday afternoon, capturing one wanted man in Tikrit, about 160 km north of Baghdad.

Coalition Forces Honor Spirit of Hajj with Focused Detainee Releases
Multi-National Force – Iraq, Task Force 134, the organization responsible for coalition detainee operations in Iraq, announced the start of focused releases of detainees in recognition of the coming period of Hajj. In Islam, Oct. 30 to Nov. 30, 2008, is known as the month of Dhul-Qi’dah, the time of preparation (for the Hajj).

Alleged al-Qaida in Iraq courier network associate, four more suspects detained Tuesday
One wanted man and four other suspected terrorists were detained Tuesday as coalition forces continued to degrade al-Qaida in Iraq’s operating capabilities in central and northern Iraq.
