ANP stop rocket attack
On Oct. 11, Afghan National Police observed an insurgent emplacing a 107mm rocket and pursued the insurgent, subsequently recovering the rocket.


Coalition forces kill two enemy insurgents, destroy 82mm recoilless rifle
An enemy insurgent team was killed, and their weapons destroyed, after coalition forces observed the team firing an 82mm recoilless rifle towards a coalition forces' base near Ghariban Sept. 11.


Joint ANSF/coalition forces air assault operation leads to disruption of insurgent networks
Afghan National Security Forces partnered with coalition forces, conducted a two-day air assault operation, Sept. 12-14, to disrupt insurgent networks in the area, while being engaged multiple times by insurgent small-arms fire, then detaining one insurgent, and killing another.


USACE delivers books to build Afghan engineering capacity
The Soviet occupation damaged Afghanistan's universities, and the reign of the Taliban nearly destroyed them. On Sept. 22, the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team helped the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District-South repair some of that damage by delivering $120,000 worth of engineering text books to Kandahar University.

Filled with fluorescent light, the narrow, windowless classroom seemed a stark contrast to the final exam the students and instructors were studying for early Friday evening. After thirty minutes the classroom began to empty as groups of three departed for their less confining exam rooms. For the next three and half hours, their test results would literally be up in the air, as the students conducted their final evaluation flight in the new version of the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, the UH-60M.
