The Soldiers of the 148th Brigade Support Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Georgia Army National Guard, formed for the last time at Camp Phoenix, March 28, to conduct a transfer of authority with the arriving 186th Brigade Support Battalion of Vermont's 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

U.S. Army 1st Lt. Marcus Ruzek's platoon was pinned down. They were outmanned, under heavy fire and cutoff. Ruzek and his 13 men had been fighting up to 70 Taliban for eight hours. They were unable to move and fighting from a poorly defendable position. All they could do was hunker down. It was his darkest hour.

The 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Protective Service Detachment worked hand in hand with the U.S. Marine Corps Feb. 12 at the start of a four-day mission escorting 122 vehicles and nearly 300 Afghan National Army soldiers half way to their new command at Forward Operating Base Deleram in western Helmand Province.


Community backs 48th Brigade Soldier after robbery
Spc. Jeffrey Farmer, Company D, 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team was scuba diving in Australia during his rest and recuperation leave last August when he got a message to call home. "I was told I'd been robbed and everything was taken," he said. "Needless to say my R&R went downhill from there."
