Maj. Gen. Keith Thurgood, Deputy Commanding General and Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Reserve Command, recently attended an employer partnership event sponsored by Schneider National, the largest privately owned trucking company in North America. Schneider is a proponent of hiring veterans, and many Army Reserve Soldiers work for the company in all positions from truck drives through management. Schneider vice president of recruiting Mike Hintz was Thurgood's host for the event. He said that the company wants U.S. military veterans as employees because they know the military produces strong, intelligent and committed personnel. Thurgood said that Schneider recognizes the great skill set that Army Reserve Soldiers brings to the company. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker also attended the event, and recognized the company for its veterans hiring efforts by proclaiming April 4th, the date of the event, Schneider National Hire a Hero Day in the state of Wisconsin.
