Troopers awarded Combat Action Streamer
Cavalrymen of Bonecrusher Troop, 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd “Spartan” Advise and Assist Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, were awarded the Combat Action Streamer, for their efforts while deployed to Northern Iraq, during a ceremony held at Contingency Operating Site Diamondback, Oct. 1.

They call themselves members of the “Nowatay Nation.” “Nowatay,” the Troop’s motto, is derived from a Lakota-Sioux war cry that means “It’s a good day to fight, It’s a good day to die!” This offensive mindset has been ingrained in the non-commissioned officers of Crazyhorse Troop, 3rd Squadron, 7th U.S. Cavalry, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, since beginning their deployment to Iraq in the fall of 2009.

Sweat starts to roll down your face, burning your eyes and clouding your vision. Suddenly a quick swoosh of your opponents jab buzzes by, as you quickly duck to avoid the impact. The roar of the crowd starts to fill air and your head; only surpassed by the pounding of your heart beat, as if it was an out of control bass drum. “Swoosh,” as your opponents swing just misses its mark again. You and your opponent start shuffling about the ring, as if a coordinated dance, as you both battle for positioning.
