The training took place during the 24th MEU’s Certification Exercise (CERTEX) with Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group Jan. 27 to Feb. 17, which includes a series of missions intended to evaluate and certify the unit for their upcoming deployment. Food and supplies were brought aboard by a AS332 Puma helicopter to resupply the ship while underway off the coast of North Carolina conducting training. The raid tested the 24th MEU’s abilities to integrate all the tools of the Marine Air Ground Task Force to neutralize a mock terrorist training camp and was the culminating event for RUT, which focuses on conducting training missions at off-base locations in unfamiliar terrain.
