“Going live in 10 ... 9 … 8 … 7 … 6 … 5 …” and so it began. The nominees for the 84th Academy Awards were announced before the sun rose on the West Coast Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012. Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence announced the nominees during a live news conference held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater here.

Instead, she heard words like Galapagos, octopuses and meteorites.


200th MPC prepares for wartime mission during Ulchi Freedom Guardian 2011
More than 50 soldiers assigned to the 200th Military Police Command, including its most senior leaders, deployed to the South Korea this month to participate in Ulchi Freedom Guardian 2011 -- a Combined Forces Command exercise involving the ROK, United States forces and seven United Nations Command sending state nations.

"You're a late night operator on a suicide hotline. The phone rings and when you answer it, you hear the sound of a gun going off," says Lt. Col. Steve Langehough, the deputy command chaplain for the 200th Military Police Command as he slams a hardbound book onto the concrete floor of the drill hall. The report echoes and visibly startles his trainee audience.
