In Command:: Q&A with Lt. Col. Robert D. Burke, Squadron Commander of 1-152 CAV (RSTA)
Few are given the opportunity to command a battalion in a combat zone. And to be a commander is, arguably, the highlight of an officer’s career. To command is to serve, as Andre Malraux states. For Lt. Col. Robert Burke, a Connersville, Ind., native, and the squadron commander of 1st Squadron, 152nd Cavalry Recon, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition, service and commanding have been a part of his life since birth. Burke was born on a military post and witnessed his father, (Christopher Burke, a Vietnam veteran and Army Reservist), retire at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and complete some of the hardest schools the Army had to offer. Awards - The 168th Brigade Support Battalion Re-enlistment Team is recognized for their outstanding work
The 168th Brigade Support Battalion continues its mission in the pursuit of excellence while deployed to Iraq. The battalion was recognized by 4th Infantry Division, Aug. 22, 2008, as the “Top Battalion” for three consecutive quarters by continuing to exceed all mission requirements of keeping Soldiers in boots. This is the second time in 12 months that the 168th BSB, from Fort Sill, Oklahoma, was recognized by the 4th Infantry Division as the “Top Battalion” among all its battalions in Baghdad. (09/2/08)
Born on the Bayou
Lt. Col. Randall Beauregard Bradford of Alexandria, La., known to his many peers simply as “Beau,” is the commanding officer of the 165th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. With well over 1,300 troops in its ranks, Bradford’s ‘miniature brigade,’ as it is sometimes called, is currently the most robust battalion in Iraq. (08/27/08)
Medical readiness at the 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion gains ground after visit by 1st Sustainment Brigade Medical Team
Accidents often occur when Soldiers are least prepared for them. But thanks to some recent staff assistance visits by the 1st Sustainment Brigade Surgeon’s Office, that is no longer the case in the 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. (08/26/08)
Taji Level III Wheeled Vehicle Maintenance Facility celebrates early progress
The temperatures swelled into the triple digits as Iraqi maintenance troops stood tall and proud next to one of the 150-plus vehicles on parade near the Taji level III wheeled vehicle maintenance facility, Aug. 26, 2008. The vehicles and mechanics were part of a ceremony held to highlight their recent achievements. The guest of honor was Staff Gen. Nasier Abadi, the Iraqi army deputy chief of staff and others from the Iraqi army and coalition forces. (08/26/08)
