The song “video killed the radio star” was the first video played on MTV in 1981 and launched a music revolution. Soldiers of the Virginia Army National Guard’s 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are deploying technology in a revolutionary way in Afghanistan using a short wave radio transmitter that can reach almost every radio in Zabul province.

 Afghans to US: Send lawyers, guns and money
The government of Afghanistan has made significant progress in expanding the rule of law in Zabul province. The total number of criminal cases being handled has more than doubled over the past two Islamic calendar years and is on track to increase 50 percent this year. Judges, prosecutors and civil dispute adjudicators called “huquqs” (previously there were none) have been hired. Despite this continued great news, what Zabul needs now, say local officials (paraphrasing Warren Zevon), are more lawyers, guns and money.

 Soldier’s influence reaches hundreds through charitable donation
Worship services at Forward Operating Base Lagman have received an added boost thanks to members of the Horizon Community Church from Chesapeake, Va., who donated a bass guitar to the FOB Lagman chapel band in Zabul province, Afghanistan.

Zabul provincial governor Mohammad Ashraf Naseri, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Mark P. Hertling, commander, U.S. Army Europe, and Maj. Gen. Ariton Ionita, Romanian Land Forces commander, attended a transfer of authority ceremony at Forward Operating Base Apache between the Romanian 2nd and 300th Battalions Dec. 9. Col. Blake C.
