McLeod assumes command of 1st Battalion, 178th Field Artillery
Col. Waymon Storey, commander 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, South Carolina National Guard, transferred command of the 1st Battalion, 178th Field Artillery from Lt. Col. Edward McInnis to Lt. Col. Allen McLeod during a ceremony held at McCrady Training Center, Jan. 21, 2012.


Soldiers square off during the South Carolina National Guard’s first Combatives Tournament
Nearly 20 soldiers competed in the first-ever South Carolina National Guard Level I Combatives Tournament, held, Nov. 19-20, at the McCrady Training Center. The event was an opportunity for troops to get together in one location and compete while also continuing to train on skills they have previously learned.


South Carolina Football joins USO in honoring the military
The United Service Organizations hosted a pre-game tailgate party with food, games and entertainment for service members prior to the University of South Carolina’s annual Military Appreciation football game against The Citadel, Nov. 19, at Williams-Brice Stadium.


9/11 lead me to service
In commemoration of the 10 year anniversary of Sept. 11, the website www.911day.org is encouraging citizens to give back service to their community in honor of those who gave their lives serving others that day. In addition to the police and firefighters who put their duty above all else, ordinary people became extraordinary heroes. As the anniversary approached, I wondered what I could do to give back. I hadn’t realized that my service had been 10 years in the making.


218th MEB conducts 'Palmetto Response"
While many South Carolina citizens are taking advantage of the summer-time weather by swimming, fishing or taking vacations, the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade of the S.C. National Guard conducted annual training, June 4-18, to increase their readiness and to ensure the safety of those whom they stand ready to protect.
