Residents of local communities in and around Sainte Mere Eglise, France hand out champagne to service members in preparation for a friendship toast, June 3. The group of more than 350 service members, currently in the Normandy region supporting events in honor of the 65th anniversary of D-Day, was invited to dinner in the citizens' homes as a show of appreciation for the liberation of France as a result of the Normandy invasion. | http://www.dvidshub.net/?script=images/images_gallery.php&action=viewimage&fid=177860

News Story | Normandy: One Soldier's unexpected home away from home

In the few days that I have been in this town I have continuously heard about the great respect and friendship between the French citizens here and American servicemembers, and in my ventures into town I have felt a great deal of camaraderie. But I believe it was not until last night that I was able to truly experience the bond that exists between the American military and the people of Normandy. | http://www.dvidshub.net/?script=news/news_show.php&id=34656

News Story | Values bind service members together across span of time

As I walked through the American cemetery at Omaha Beach at Normandy, France, I found it difficult to wrap my mind around a battle so large and so brutal. I imagine, as thousands of Soldiers poured onto these beaches 65 years ago, the magnitude of the conflict must have been overwhelming to them as well. | http://www.dvidshub.net/?script=news/news_show.php&id=34555
