News Stories Honoring Sgt. 1st Class Thode The Blanding Armory was renamed and rededicated the Sgt. 1st Class James E. Thode Armory, Blanding Readiness Center, during a ceremony Dec. 9. The renaming ceremony was held in honor of Sgt. 1st Class James E. 807th Medical Maintenance helps Honduran hospital The scene at Hospital Escuela is crowded. People stuff themselves into the lobbies and hallways of the hospital, waiting to see medical professionals for problems from earaches to gunshot wounds. The emergency room is packed with patients waiting to be seen, family members, and even a disoriented patient holding his own IV bag. Hospital employees scurry about the crowds, quickly doing what they can to process everyone through. It is hard to see the order through the chaos. Headed toward becoming the Army Reserve’s Best Warrior Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Leith W. Strachan swayed on his feet, visibly exhausted, sweat dripping from his forehead. Three days of intense competition had just culminated in a three-minute grappling match for the combatives championship. As the judge held up his hand, a winner by decision, he gave a small smile, finished with both the match and the 96th Sustainment Brigade’s Best Warrior competition and the champion of both, in his division.
