Job Corps cadets serve aboard Portland District dredges Yaquina and Essayons as part of their training in the Seamanship Training Program at Tongue Point Job Corps Center, Astoria. The program teaches maritime rules and regulations, sea survival, deck and engine room equipment and operations, and galley cook training. When their training is complete the cadets have the knowledge and experience to earn the U. S. Coast Guard qualified rating for merchant mariner credentials.
