Sgt. Maj. of the Army Kenneth O. Preston touched down in Balad, Iraq, Dec. 19, for the second leg of the "Sergeant Major of the Army's Hope and Freedom Tour 2009." The performers kicked off the tour in Kuwait playing for service members at Camp Arifjan before heading to Balad.

[1] Multi-National Corps-Iraq and Multi National Forces-Iraq merger to United States Forces – Iraq from Baghdad
On January 1, 2010, a new era in Operation Iraqi freedom will begin. The combining of five different command groups in Iraq into one single headquarters will be complete. United States Forces – Iraq is scheduled to be implemented early 2010 and will be fully operational by, March 15.

The country of Liberia entered its second civil war in 1999 when a rebel group, backed by the government of neighboring Guinea, overwhelmed the capital Monrovia. Invading rebels caused the death and displacement of thousands of people caught in the conflict. One U.S. Marine and his family were caught amongst the fighting but have managed to turn tragedy into triumph.
