[1] Obama’s civilian-surge plan comes to life at Camp Atterbury National Deployment Center may follow success
As the effects of President Barack Obama’s plan to drawdown troops in Iraq and shift fighting forces to Afghanistan become reality, the military’s need for civilian expertise in theater is becoming more apparent. In addition to the troop surge in Afghanistan, Obama has implemented a civilian surge, supplementing the military with teams of subject matter experts in a variety of fields such as security, agribusiness and logistics from several U.S. government agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State and the Department of Defense. [1] Top Afghan army sergeant, police chief visit Camp Atterbury, Ind.
The top non-commissioned officer of the Afghanistan national army and chief of Afghan national police visited Camp Atterbury March 9 and 10, to learn about the training facilities that produce thousands of troops and civilians deploying to Afghanistan, and to brief Army officials on the situation in theatre. [8] Task Force 38 pilot embraces musical outlet
Shortly after arriving at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, a 3rd Battalion, 158 Aviation Regiment UH-60 Black Hawk pilot received a mission to fly members of the United Service Organizations tour throughout Iraq. The usual mission provided an unusual experience and jump start to the pilot's Operation Iraqi Freedom deployment. (03/1/10)

[1] Iraq Troop Evacuation Effects at Camp Atterbury
It started as a campaign promise and in the recent State of the Union Address, it became policy. Before the assembled totality of Congress and other dignitaries, President Barack Obama declared the withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq. [1] Civilians learn security, safety measures in preparation for deployment
It's official. The Civilian Expeditionary Workforce, introduced in January 2009, is up and running full speed ahead. After an intense 10-day course held from Jan. 25 through Feb. 3, the first iteration – 16 students – of the CEW completed their course at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. To date, more than 3,000 civilians have deployed in support of overseas stabilization missions. (02/17/10)

[4] Medal of Honor Recipient visits Bedford unit
Medal of Honor Recipient Sammy Davis paid a visit to Soldiers from the 2219th Brigade Support Company, Indiana National Guard Feb. 13, at the Bedford National Guard Armory here.
