'September 11th: In the Eyes of the Arkansas National Guard' “September 11th: In the Eyes of the Arkansas National Guard” is a video project which offers a look back at that day and the follow on missions tasked to the Arkansas National Guard.
The video includes an interview with retired Sgt. Maj. Frank Staples – an Arkansas Guardsmen whose son was in the towers during the attack. Among interview clips from 31different individuals in the video is an interview with Sgt. Maj. Staples’ son, Adam Staples, who miraculously survived the attack despite being on the 61st floor of the south tower at the time it was hit.

Realistic training helping to prepare Arkansas soldiers for Afghanistan Approximately 2,000 Arkansas Troops with the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are curretnly training at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif. The team arrived on May 9 for the three week rotation. NTC provides realistic battlefield scenarios, supported y top notch special effects and dozens of civilians on the battlefield to add to the realism. In total, approximately 3,500 soldiers, airmen and Marines from various states are participating in the training under command and control of the 39th. Roughly 2,000 Arkansas soldiers currently training in the Mohave Desert While recent tornados and flooding resulted in multiple calls for National Guard support in Arkansas, the Guard’s focus on its federal missions continues with 2,000 Arkansas troops here currently at the National Training Center.
