SAN ANTONIO – Linda Talley, wife of Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley, chief of Army Reserve and commanding general, United States Army Reserve Command, stopped by the Rudder Army Reserve Center, here, to talk with soldiers and family members about the Family Readiness Group program Jan. 3.
The FRG's main goal is to assist commanders in maintaining readiness of soldiers, families, and communities within the Army by promoting self-sufficiency, resiliency, and stability during peace and war.
"There are so many great programs now, compared to when my husband joined the Army Reserve," Talley said. "The public, even our own soldiers and family members, do not even know what the Army Reserve and FRG really does. My biggest desire is to make sure everybody knows what programs we have."
After sharing her experiences and concerns, Talley made sure to hear the concerns of the family and service members.
"Mrs. Talley coming here was a really good opportunity for the individuals," said Sgt. Maj. Dena Jimenez, chief clinical sergeant major, U.S. Army Medical Command, and mother of U.S. Army Reserve soldier Pfc. Chelsea Jimenez, broadcaster for the 205th Public Affairs Operations Center. "She was really able to hear from them what was happening on the family readiness ... she brought some good information. I think it was really nice she came here."
The Talley's took time from activities with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl to visit soldiers and family members. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is in its 13th year and highlights the nation's top high school football players, along with the best high school marching band musicians and color guard members. Players in the bowl are paired with U.S. Army soldier heroes for a variety of events throughout the week.
The Army's support of these elite high school athletes and band members celebrates youth who have demonstrated the same excellence and dedication that defines Army Strong. The U.S Army All-American Bowl has produced more than 180 NFL players and 54 first-round picks. This year's U.S. Army All-American Bowl is scheduled for kick-off Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. (EST).
