MIAMI - United States Southern Command announced the repatriation to Yemen of the remains of Allal Ab-Aljallil Abd al-Rahman Abd (aka Adnan Farhan Abdul Latif), a 32-year-old Yemeni who died at Guantanamo (GTMO) on Sept. 8, 2012.

The medical examiner concluded that the death was a suicide. Mr. Latif died of a self-induced overdose of prescription medication. The medical examiner also concluded that acute pneumonia was a contributing factor in his death.

As is standard practice in all detainee deaths at GTMO, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is conducting an independent investigation into the events surrounding the detainee's death.

Joint Task Force Guantanamo continues to provide safe, humane, and lawful care and custody of detainees. This mission is being performed professionally, transparently and humanely by the men and women of Joint Task Force Guantanamo.
