Hometown recognition for the USAR Deputy Commander (Operations)

Ponce, PR – The Municipal Legislature of the Municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico, recognized the military trajectory of Maj. Gen. Luis R. Visot, Deputy Commander (Operations) of USAR Nov. 27.

The event took place in the Leopoldo Bonilla Velez Hall, Chamber of the Municipal Legislature, and a Resolution was given to Maj. Gen. Visot from the hands of its President, Hon. Roberto Gonzalez Rosa and Municipal Legislator General (Ret.) Juan Rosado.

Maj. Gen. Visot assumed the responsibilities of Deputy Commanding General (Operations) on June 9, 2012. He has been deployed in seven occasions and have received an Army Distinguished Service Medal, a Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait) among many others awards and decorations throughout his military career.

According the Gonzalez, this is an unprecedented event for the Municipal Legislature of Ponce. “This is the first time that we make such recognition for a Service Member with such a high ranking position. We started very good, and we hope that in the future, if there is someone who can emulate Maj. Gen. Visot’s achievements, we can also recognize them, and all who do positives things that contribute to the development of the Municipality of Ponce.” He sentenced.

Maj. Gen. Visot has held a variety of command and staff positions and currently, as Deputy Commanding General (Operations), provides oversight of the 16 Army Reserve Operational and Functional Commands. He is also engage in an orientation campaign on suicide prevention for the US Army Reserve.

“I dedicate this recognition and this honor, first to my father, Wiso Visot, he is really who deserves all these recognitions. Thanks to him and what he had taught me, I can stand in front of you today to receive this recognition. But also, I have to remember “mami”, who passed away in 1972, but who is and will be in my heart”. Expressed an emotional Visot at the beginning of his speech.

Maj. Gen. Visot, also thanked and dedicated this recognition to all Soldiers and their family members and all the civilians that have served with him for let him wear his rank and the because he can not have the pleasure to serve if they were not willing to serve our great nation.

Hon. Lucy Arce, Senator of the Senate of Puerto Rico and President of Commissions of Work, Veteran Affairs, and Human Resources, and volunteer for the Yellow Ribbon of the US Army Reserve - Puerto Rico was the person who contacted Gonzalez to make this recognition.

“As a volunteer with the Yellow Ribbon for the US Army Reserve in Puerto Rico, I heard that we had General Visot in such a high ranking position and as Puerto Rican I felt proud and honored and I believe that the least we can do was from his hometown, to give him recognition.” She said.

After the event, Maj. Gen. Visot spent some time with members of the Municipal Government, friends and family members that were also present for this occasion.
