Quantico Chapter of the NNOA leadership lecture

QUANTICO, Va. - The Quantico Chapter of the National Naval Officers held a leadership lecture at the Clubs at Quantico Officer Club on Oct. 3.

The State of the Marine Corps presentation was given by Lt. Gen. Willie J. Williams, Marine Corps Staff director. Williams also held a question-and-answer session that members and nonmembers of the chapter were able to participate in.

“The Marine Corps is in good shape,” said Williams. “We have some major challenges ahead of us, but the leadership is facing those head on, and because of that, we will be able to conquer them.”
Williams spoke about some of the major concerns of the Marine Corps with drawbacks and what it will mean for Marines and leadership.

“We are and always will be the first responders,” said Williams. “Our mission is to serve the president and do the bidding of our nation, and that’s just what we will continue to do.”

“The association is here to mentor and help career development,” said Flagg. “We also do community outreach. Last year we were able to raise $14,000 in scholarships for local students.”

“I have been a part of this organization since I was a second lieutenant,” said Lt. Col. Kisha M. Flagg, the Quantico Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association vice president. “I joined because of great mentors and am now able to give back by mentoring.”

“I am proud to speak here and see what you all are doing,” said Williams. “You have to know what’s going on to know how to improve it, and this chapter is doing just that.”

The chapter doesn’t just hold discussion and lectures; they also hold and participate in a number of volunteer programs throughout the year, run a mentorship program and raise money for scholarships.

The chapter and association are open to any naval officer: active, reserve, retired or civilian. If wanting to join or be added to the email distribution list, contact Flagg at kasha.flagg@usmc.mil.
