RAF MILDENHALL, England - Airman 1st Class Brandon Evans scored two second-half goals as the 100th Security Forces Squadron came from a goal behind to win the outdoor soccer championship by defeating the 100th Civil Engineering Squadron 3-1 Oct. 4, 2012, at RAF Mildenhall.
This was the second game of the night as goals from Senior Airman Justin Wood and a last minute effort from Airman 1st Class Eduardo Alcaraz gave SFS a 2-0 win to ensure the championship went to a deciding game.
So with the floodlights on and the temperature dropping, the second game of the night kicked off. The SFS starting full of energy feeding off their earlier victory, tested Airman 1st Class Justin Krah in the CES goal in the first few seconds who was able to push the ball clear. But, CES was not giving up, as coach Airman 1st Class Vincente Andrade worked tirelessly upfront trying to create openings for his team and after 10 minutes his reward paid off as his low shot found the bottom corner of the net.
This spurred on SFS in particular Alcaraz who looking dangerous on the wing, created a good chance for Senior Airman Dominique Walker who's shot sailed over the bar. Alcaraz himself came close to equalizing for SFS when two good efforts went wide.
The score at half time was 100th CES 1-100th SFS 0.
CES started the second half brightly when Zac Murfitt got on the end of a corner kick only to see his shot flash wide of the goal. Adam Powell continued to pile on the pressure for CES as his shot was smartly saved by Airman 1st Class Barry O'Brien in the SFS goal.
Nine minutes into the second half SFS equalized, when a low shot from Bandon Evans found the back of the net.
With tired legs the game was now getting stretched and the goal gave the SFS a boost. On 15 minutes Alcaraz showed some great skill and his square pass to Evans gave him the simplest of chances to side- foot the ball home from close range for a 2-1 lead.
As the game was coming to an end Airman 1st Class Michael Clarke was able to scramble the ball home to make the final score 3-1, which sparked off wild celebrations from the sidelines.
CES coach, Staff Sgt. Nicholas Janssen was proud of his team effort.
Staff Sgt. Mark Thomas said after the game, "We just wanted it more."
Brandon Evans said, "We knew we came out with a good team and lots of hustle was the key."
