CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Cherry Point hosted a kick-off party for the Combined Federal Campaign at the station theater Sept. 13.
The party included a performance by the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Jazz Ensemble, a car and motorcycle show, an athletic competition, a silent auction and a karaoke competition.
“This event is an opportunity to help out charities and it’s always good to donate when we have guaranteed pay checks,” said Staff Sgt. Royce D. Kelley, the adjutant for Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron. “I participated in the CFC Cup and entered my vehicle into the car show this year.”
The CFC is an annual charitable fundraising campaign for federal employees. For more than 50 years, the campaign has raised money for thousands of charities to help people, animals and organizations around the world.
"The Combined Federal Campaign is one of the easiest and most efficient ways federal employees can support charitable organizations or causes they believe in,” said Maj. William F. Klumpp, the CFC fund drive manager. “In a matter of minutes, in your office or work space, you can give cash or set up an allotment that will help fund the organization of your choice.
"The kickoff event was just the beginning,” he said. “Now it's time to make sure everyone knows that the campaign is underway and has a chance to contribute to their select charities.”
Contributions through a one-time donation are welcome as well as unit fund raisers for the campaign.
“The kick off was a lot of fun for a great cause,” said Cpl. Aaron J. Rayburn, an air frame mechanic with Marine Transport Squadron 1. Rayburn was a member of “Major Payne,” the team that won the CFC Cup challenge.
This year’s campaign will conclude Nov. 29.
“Our goal this year is 100 percent contact, not a dollar figure,” said Pamela Hacker, the Cherry Point civilian manpower officer. “Each unit has key workers that they have designated to go out and reach individuals with information about the campaign.”
