CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – The commander of the International Security Assistance Force Regional Command Southwest, Gen. Charles ‘Mark’ Gurganus, condemns yesterday’s terrorist attack against Abdul Hadi (hamdard), an employee for Helmand Radio Television that resulted in his death, and the death of his friend, as well as injuring two others.
According to Helmand Provincial officials, the improvised IED detonated on Hadi's vehicle in the Abazan streets area, Gereshk district of Helmand province on Wednesday late afternoon around six p.m. local. Hadi was also a teacher in Helmand at a training college.
“This is an attack by the Taliban upon Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. Those that continue to serve as the deliverers of information to the Afghan people are working for a more prosperous future for Afghanistan because they would rather die than be without these freedoms. They are the heroes of Afghanistan and they have made the world a better place because of the information they have provided that has helped their fellow Afghans,” Gurganus said.
The growing frustration of the Afghan people with this senseless violence is manifesting itself in various locations across Afghanistan as Afghans are rising up against the violence and oppression of the Taliban.
