Falcon Brigade welcomes new senior enlisted adviser

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, held a Brigade change of responsibility ceremony June 28, where Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Guden relinquished responsibility of 2BCT “Falcon Brigade” to Command Sgt. Maj. Butler Kendrick.

Prior to the ceremony, Col. Timothy McAteer, commander of 2BCT, presented Guden’s wife, Anne, with a Shield of Sparta award for faithful and significant service to the infantry. McAteer, on behalf of the Secretary of the Army, also presented Guden with the Legion of Merit award for his dedicated service to the Brigade.

During the ceremony, Guden passed the Brigade colors to McAteer, who in turn passed the colors to Kendrick, symbolizing the exchange of responsibility from the outgoing to the incoming senior enlisted advisor.

Guden served as the 2BCT senior enlisted advisor for almost two years. He deployed with the unit in support of Operation New Dawn in 2011, ensuring a safe withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. A native of Medford, Wis., he will be assuming the position of command sergeant major for the Infantry School in Fort Benning, Ga.

Kendrick is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y.
