WASHINGTON, D.C. - Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Commander, Navy Capt. Anthony T. Calandra, issued a statement today expressing thanks for the cooperation of all JBAB residents and personnel during the weekend’s devastating storm.

Calandra specifically thanked members of the JBAB Public Works Department; Security Services Division and members of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division for their outstanding effort during the response and recovery.

“We experienced widespread damage onboard JBAB. What you see this morning is nothing like what the base looked like Saturday morning,” he said.

The response and recovery efforts enabled JBAB to be fully mission capable, Calandra said.

Air Force Col. Michael Saunders, JBAB vice commander, and Air Force Lt. Col. Allen Thibeaux, JBAB public works officer helped lead the weekend’s response and recovery efforts.

“Notwithstanding the wonderful efforts and the great leadership by the vice commander and public works officer, there is still much more to do,” Calandra said.

He asked all JBAB personnel to assess their areas of responsibility to check for any hidden damage. “If you or your team is able to do any local clean-up of debris, it would speed up the recovery process.”

“Please make it a point today to thank the Public Works and Security team, along with many members of the MWR team for their outstanding effort to get the base up and running for today,” Calandra, urges.

In addition to thanking JBAB members for the long hours they put in over the weekend in response to the natural disaster, he highlighted the teamwork and emphasized the base normal operating mode, “We run this base as a team and that is how we recover,” he concluded.
