KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Key Uruzgan province Afghan National Police leaders met with Regional Command (South) ANP leaders and International Security Assistance Force leadership in the province to discuss supply and logistics issues, June 7.
The groups met for the logistics shura at the compound of Brig. Gen. Matullah Khan, provincial chief of police for Uruzgan, to resolve problems the Uruzgan ANP have receiving supplies and repairing and maintaining essential equipment. Matullah Khan and his officers identified logistical issues with supplies ranging from blankets to vehicle maintenance parts.
The shura focused on helping the ANP become more self-sufficient by emphasizing the use of internal avenues such as existing supply chains, maintenance channels and enhancing asset management.
“It is our duty to accomplish this on our own,” said Maj. Gen. Mohammed Salem Ehsas, 404th Maiwand Police commander, ANP. “This is very important for us to be accountable. We have to be accountable.”
This shura is a small part of the greater effort by ISAF to promote the self-sufficiency of the Afghan National Security Forces as they prepare for a full transition of authority.
