KUNDUZ PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Thirty Afghan Local Police graduated the Afghan National Army special forces’ new ALP Advanced Training Course here, May 31.
The ALP Advanced Training Course continues building upon a foundation of law enforcement education in subjects such as the Afghan Constitution; human rights; interaction with locals; evidence handling and improvised explosive device identification.
“They taught us how to read and write, which will be good for my future and my profession,” added Taw Judin, who recently graduated the advanced course. “I want to share that with other ALP members. I will definitely recommend the class to others when I return to my village.”
The Ministry of the Interior initiated the Advanced ALP Class in an effort to strengthen proficiency and boost the effectiveness of the ALP force.
“You men are doing something many Afghans are afraid to do,” said an ANASF commando instructor. “Being in this class and learning how to protect your villages and your country is an important duty. I look at this room full of bright, intelligent men, and I know you will do great things.”
The ALP Commander for Kunduz district, Col. Abdul Shakur, hopes to cycle 30 students through every three weeks.
“This course will give the ALP a little more recognition, both in the eyes of the public and in the eyes of other MOI agencies,” said a coalition commander, who has been monitoring the class and giving the MOI curriculum advice. “A lot of the locals are still learning to recognize the ALP as a legitimate Afghan security agency, but this course, this certification, will help make the ALP a stronger force in the area.”
