BOSTON — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 67-year-old man from a cruise ship 210 miles southwest of Cape Cod, Mass., Monday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 1st District Command Center received a call at 10:55 a.m., Monday from the 916-foot cruise ship Enchantment of the Seas requesting assistance for a male suffering from stroke-like symptoms.

A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and a HU-25 Falcon Jet quickly launched to assist.

Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter safely hoisted the man from the Enchantment of the Seas and transported him to Massachusetts General Hospital.

"Given the poor weather and the distance from shore, we had to meticulously plan the flight in order to conduct the medevac," said L.t. j.g. Garin Kirkpatrick, the Auxiliary Liaison Officer for Air Station Cape Cod. "We're glad we were able to get out there, pick up the patient, and get him to medical treatment."
