CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Marines, sailors, family and friends gathered for a memorial service in honor of fallen Marine Master Sgt. Scott E. Pruitt at Camp Pendleton, Calif., May 14.
Pruitt was killed, April 28, when an improvised explosive device went off in Zaranj, Nimruz province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Regional Command Southwest as the commander’s Emergency Response Program fiscal chief.
I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group and Service Company held the service at the Blinder Memorial Chapel where Marines reflected on Pruitt and his contributions to the Marine Corps during his, nearly, 19 years of active duty.
Lance Cpl. Breton G. Starr said Pruitt was the type of leader
who would play basketball with the junior Marines during off-duty
hours.
Pruitt enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1993 after graduating high
school. He attended basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, N.C.
Pruitt went on to Financial Management School at Camp Johnson, N.C. and continued his service at Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan until 1996. Pruitt also served in Keflavik, Iceland; Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, S.C.; Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Camp Johnson, N.C.; and Training and Education Command in Quantico, Va.
Pruitt is survived by his daughters, Jennifer and Jordyn Pruitt, his
brother Paul A. Pruitt, his father, Gene Pruitt, his mother Lydia A.
Hobson, and his fiancee, Tricia L. Lane.
Pruitt now rests at Arlington National Cemetery where he was buried, May 8.
