ROME, N.Y. - Two New York Air National guardsmen and one civilian stationed at the Eastern Air Defense Sector have been named annual award winners by the U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region – 1st Air Force.
Senior Airman Andrew Ross of Renovo, Pa., was named Outstanding Airman of the Year, while Tech. Sgt. Justin Bush of Camden won the enlisted Command and Control Warrior of the Year award. Krispen Dorfman of Rome was named Category II Civilian of the Year.
"On behalf of the entire unit, I want to congratulate Senior Airman Ross, Tech. Sgt. Bush and Mr. Dorfman for winning these prestigious and highly competitive awards," said Col. Dawne L. Deskins, EADS Commander. "There are more than 2,300 airmen and civilians serving in CONR-1st Air Force. Having three of the annual award winners come from EADS is a remarkable achievement and is indicative of the quality of people we have serving here."
The winners will be recognized at the annual awards banquet, which will be held during the 1st Air Force Commander's Conference on March 21 at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.
The winners also will advance to compete in their respective categories at Air Combat Command, NORAD and U.S. Northern Command and the National Guard Bureau.
The Eastern Air Defense Sector is headquartered at Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome. Staffed by active-duty New York Air National guardsmen and a Canadian forces detachment, the unit supports the North American Aerospace Defense Command's integrated warning and attack assessment missions and the U.S. Northern Command's homeland defense mission.
EADS is responsible for air sovereignty and counter-air operations over the eastern United States and directs a variety of assets to defend one million square miles of land and sea.
