Dubuque native Air Force officer announces retirement

HONOLULU – U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Dean P. Orfield, a Dubuque, Iowa, native, who is currently serving as a logistics officer with Special Operations Command Pacific in Honolulu, will retire after 20 years of distinguished service to his nation, June 1.

A 1988 Hempstead High School graduate, the son of Paul and Barbara Orfield earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1992 and his Masters of Science in International Management at Troy State University in 2000.

Orfield’s career as a logistics officer has taken him across Afghanistan, Hungary, United Kingdom, Germany, and other regions in service to nation.

His major awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal and the NATO Medal.

Orfield plans to retire with his wife, Ikuko, and his son, Sho, in Okinawa, Japan.
