Col. Baldwin takes reigns of 3rd MDSC OCP (FWD)

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Col. Danny C. Baldwin assumed command of the Third Medical Command (Deployment Support) Operational Command Post (Forward) from Col. Chance T. Kaplan during a change of command ceremony Feb. 21 at Camp Arifjan.

“I have some big shoes to fill,” said Baldwin, a Roanoke, Ala., native. “It will be a challenge, and I am ready to accept that challenge. Our unit will continue to march on; it’s time to go to work.”

Since its arrival in theater, the 3rd MDSC OCP (FWD) has worked day-in and day-out to provide outstanding medical care to service members in its area of responsibility, said Kaplan.

“On a cold, rainy morning last March, at a parking lot in Fort Lewis, I challenged incoming soldiers of the 3rd MDSC OCP (FWD) to ‘make a difference’,” said Kaplan, a Miami native. “I spoke to them about how through honesty, hard work and professionalism they could ‘change the world’ on this mission. Now, nearly 12 months later, as we complete our deployment, I can honestly say we have accomplished our goals.”

While deployed, members of 3rd MDSC OCP (FWD) ensured execution of the annual influenza vaccination of theater personnel, planned and aligned health service support assets to support the reposition of troops and equipment from Iraq, planned and oversaw execution of the assortment and recording of medical chemical defense materiel at the Four Corner’s Class VIII collection point at Camp Virginia, and promoted comprehensive soldier fitness by initiating a care fair for service members here.

“As you can see, my challenge to ‘change the world’ and ‘make a difference’ has been accomplished,” explained Kaplan. “It’s all thanks to the hard work and dedication of the 3rd MDSC OCP (FWD) soldiers. I know Col. Baldwin will keep up the good work.”

Third Army’s commitment to the well-being of troops remains a priority. Through dedicated soldiers and leaders like those of the 3rd MDSC OCP (FWD), Third Army is maintaining the best medical care possible for service members, the strength of our nation.
