FORT KNOX, Ky. – U.S. Army NHRA Top Fuel drivers Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown kicked off the 2012 drag racing season this weekend in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif.

Brown lost in the finals to his Don Schumacher Racing teammate, Spencer Massey, while Schumacher dropped a semifinal round encounter to Massey.

After advancing to his sixth final round in the last 11 races (dating back to last year), Brown recorded an impressive 3.794-second pass at 320.43 mph, but it was a bit slower than Massey’s 3.750-second run at 325.77 mph.

In posting a 3.809-second trip at 322.88 mph, Schumacher was also solid in his race against Massey, but the latter laid down a sizzling 3.745-second trip at 328.62 mph to claim the round win. Massey’s speed was a national record.

Brown (second in points) and Schumacher (fourth in points) will now head for Firebird International Raceway outside of Phoenix next weekend for the Arizona NHRA Nationals.
