BISMARCK, N.D. - On Tuesday, the North Dakota National Guard's Developing Leaders Mentoring Program will mark a record-breaking year, as the number of people who have signed up to participate has more than doubled. With 19 pairs or 38 individuals from across the state joining in this mentoring program, it is the highest number of people to ever participate since the inception of the program in 2007. The launch of the program will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, beginning at 9 a.m., with a day-long professional development agenda at Bismarck Public School's Career Academy located on the Bismarck State College campus.
The year-long program is designed to formally partner Guard individuals with mentors in order to develop plans and grow their careers in order to reach personal and professional goals. The formal Developing Leaders program has been in place since 2007, when Maj. Gen. Sprynczynatyk implemented the program and it has resulted in more than 35 mentor and mentee pairings.
Sprynczynatyk will be the first speaker at 9 a.m. to launch the 2012 mentoring program. Previous participants in the program will be part of a panel from 1-2 p.m. to speak about their experience as a mentor or mentee.
The purpose of the mentoring program for the NDNG is to invest in employees from all levels, senior level to junior level and build skills such as leadership, communication, and time management skills as well as goal setting for career management. The NDNG has found that the mentoring programs are useful for Guardsmen to share knowledge and understanding within the organization, which grows the organizational knowledge base as well as build future leaders.
Media is invited.
