FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- The Defense Logistics Agency’s director of logistics operations received his second star at a promotion ceremony, Jan. 12, at the McNamara Headquarters Complex.
Army Maj. Gen. Lynn Collyar was promoted to his current rank at the event, which was presided over by Army Lt. Gen. Raymond Mason, the service’s deputy chief of staff for logistics.
“This is my first opportunity to promote a general officer,” Mason said. “I can’t think of any soldier I would rather pin stars on than my airborne buddy, Lynn Collyar.”
Collyar, standing on stage in his Army service uniform, had his new epaulets pinned on by his wife, Army Col. Sarah Greene, and mother, Darlene Collyar. Collyar had special thanks for his wife.
“I want to thank … Sarah, my mom and the rest of my family who are here. Sarah’s put up with a lot of things over the years. When I’m moving around, she’s the one who gets to do all of those things [I can’t]. Sarah is a colonel in the Army who has her own job to do while she’s trying to do all those other things.”
Collyar thanked people from throughout his career and said he was proud of the teamwork he has experienced during his time at DLA.
“I have had a great opportunity over the past year and a half to have people work with me and for me,” he said. “I am extremely proud to be a member of this DLA team.”
Mason said that Collyar’s path from his time as a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy to now made him the leader he is today.
“Why is he getting promoted to major general today? I think the answer is simple,” he said. “He is a caring, common-sense leader and a genuine team builder. He has always sought out and learned from great leaders. He has the innate ability to recognize and mold great talent and mentor them into outstanding leaders.”
