NAF Misawa unveils refurbished Navy Gateway Inns and Suites rooms

NAVAL AIR FACILITY MISAWA, Japan – Naval Air Facility Misawa officially unveiled its newly-refurbished Navy Gateway Inns and Suites building with a ribbon cutting ceremony here, Oct. 24, 2011.

The $1.7-million project standardizes the facility with other Navy Gateway Inns and Suites entities around the fleet, and will provide quality-of-life improvements for a facility that has already received eight consecutive “Five Star” Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt Awards for excellence in lodging management.

Overall, the NAF Misawa Navy Gateway Inns and Suites has added new carpets and furnishings for 106 single rooms, four lounges, two kitchens and two break rooms. Each individual room now has a mounted 32-inch flat screen television installed, with common kitchen and break room areas also having these TVs.

Chief Petty Officer Proceso Canlas, culinary specialist and Naval Air Facility Misawa Navy Gateway Inns and Suites and Bachelor Housing director, said these improvements will go a long way toward NAF Misawa Supply Department being competitive for their ninth straight Zumwalt award.

"The upgrades provide our sailor's and guest's with quality rooms and amenities comparable to quality commercial hotels, but at an affordable cost," said Canlas. "The refurbishing, along with our continued outstanding customer service, will ensure our NGI&S remains a top-notch lodging facility."

Naval Air Facility Misawa Command Officer Capt. Christopher Rodeman, who officially cut the ribbon during the ceremony, said the facility’s quality enhancements are appropriate for a supply department known for its excellence.

"We are fortunate to have outstanding sailors and staff members working here at NGI&S,” said Rodeman. “And I’m thrilled that we have a comparable facility here that mirrors their excellence.”
