Newman finishes 10th in Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. - Ryan Newman posted a 10th-place finish in Saturday night's Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was Newman's 15th top-10 finish of the season.

The result lifted Newman from 11th to 10th in the Chase driver standings. He is 61 points behind leader Carl Edwards with five Chase races remaining.

Newman's teammate, Tony Stewart, finished eighth and is fifth in the standings, 24 points out of the lead.

The race winner was Matt Kenseth. Rounding out the top-five in order were: Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne and Marcos Ambrose.

The next Sprint Cup race is Sunday (Oct. 23) at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
