KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Department of the Army civilians and coalition partners enjoyed live entertainment on Kandahar Airfield, Sept. 10.
Hundreds of service members gathered at the boardwalk to enjoy stand-up comedy by Andy Hendrickson and live music from party band Goldy Locks. The show, which was sponsored by Armed Forces Entertainment, performed at two other forward operating bases in Afghanistan before coming to KAF.
“We played at Tarin Kowt and Spin Buldak before we came to Kandahar Airfield,” said Goldy Locks guitarist Austin Leslie. “The troops at both bases were great, we couldn’t have asked for a better audience.”
The band kicked off the performance with a variety of songs ranging from classic rock to new metal. Goldy Lock, lead singer of the band with same name, encouraged soldiers to sing along to their favorite songs and shout out requests. She even brought a soldier on stage to dance and went in to the crowd to dance with the audience.
Comedian Andy Hendrickson took the stage next. Soldiers nearly laughed themselves to tears as he made jokes about relationships, friendship and even life in Afghanistan. His set was unfortunately interrupted when the rocket attack alarm sounded.
“I guess they didn’t like that joke,” Hendrickson said while waiting for the all clear in a bunker. “It does give us the chance to get close to the troops in here.”
After the all clear, Hendrickson finished his act and Goldy Locks took the stage to perform a few more songs. All members of the show remained on the boardwalk to meet with troops and give signatures.
“We had a great time playing and I really want to do this again,” said Goldy. “We want all the members of the military to know that you are loved and appreciated. Thank you for having us.”
