BADGHIS PROVINCE, Afghanistan – An Afghan citizen was shot by insurgents during a firefight with the Afghan national army and U.S. special operation forces near Darrah-I Bum, Qadis District, June 19.

The man was wounded when insurgents opened fire on the Afghan compound, disregarding the safety of local citizens in the area. ANA and USSOF forces positively identified the attacking forces and returned fire in their direction. The insurgent attack was successfully quelled by the combined force preventing further civilian injury or death.

The 20-year-old villager arrived at the local Afghan compound with a gunshot wound to his left leg, according to medical reports.

USSOF medics cleaned and bandaged the wound, then released the local man back to his village. He was given instructions to report back to the compound later in the week to have the wound re-evaluated, a special operations forces team member reported.
