KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces, in partnership with International Security Assistance Forces, discovered a weapons cache and detained two suspected insurgents April 29 while conducting joint clearing operations in sub-district seven of Kandahar City.

Two suspected insurgents were detained after the joint-patrol searched their compound and discovered a weapons cache. The clearing operation was led by ANSF, who worked side-by-side with ISAF in a continued effort to deprive the Taliban of weapons used to hinder security in the region.

Weapons seized in the cache included: 11 rocket-propelled grenade tubes, two RPG warheads, six 155 mm canisters used for making of improvised explosive devices, a bag of homemade explosives and various munitions and components of bomb-making materials.

“Daily patrols by ANSF and ISAF continue to pay dividends in increased security for the citizens of Kandahar,” said U.S. Army Maj. Earl Brown, public affairs officer, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “The professionalism displayed by the ANSF increases the confidence and respect of the people they protect.”
